08.128.446 Modelling with Matlab in Optical Imaging

Course

Summer term 2015, Begin: Apr. 22.

Lectures: Wednesday 13:00-14:30, Institut für Physik, Staudingerweg 7, CIP pool 03.423
Lecturers: Dr. Udo Birk
Teaching language will be English, unless otherwise specified.

In the course/tutorial, a general introduction to the concept of numerical modelling in imaging optics will be given, based on the programming environment MATLAB. Students will be given exercises to model the physical processes related to various imaging approaches, and to evaluate the potential of the corresponding imaging / illumination / detection techniques.

Examples will be taken from advanced light microscopy such as modelling the Point-Spread-Function (in signal processing: impulse response function) e.g. for 4Pi- and Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) Microscopy. Models will be designed for Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy, and for several problems related to image processing, e.g. filtering and deconvolution.
